Knit Three Ways

Jodie Mae

As we shiver through the midst of winter, I've critically assessed the capacity of my wardrobe to keep me feeling toasty (and glam) when I'm gallivanting out in the cold.

When it comes to the colder seasons, I personally know it can be hard to make any look feel chic, especially when you're bundling up from head to toe! However, if there's one 'odi et amo' fashion statement that will always come back as this season's trendiest silhouettes, it'd be the knitted dress. The knitted dress continues to prove that it's possible to stay warm and still be stylish even when those temperatures start to drop! Whether you opt for ribbed, fitted knit style or a sweater-like silhouette, this fashion-forward dress option is truly a piece that can be worn however you prefer, with whatever you want, and of course whenever you like.

Speaking of which, I've done some shopping recently and bought a few knit pieces myself. I thought I'd round them up for you in this photostory shot against the historically iconic Queen Victoria Building in Sydney CBD to perhaps inspire you to make your own fashion statement with this style.

Let me paint a picture, and create some scenarios for you...

The weekend is finally here! I've had a long week at work, attending meeting after meeting, sitting at my desk rummaging through documents, tirelessly looking at the screen that I decide to finish a little early - after all, it is Friday! And what does Friday mean? It's time to get all glammed up of course, meet the girls at a swanky new bar for a cocktail or two (or three), talking and laughing the week away!

The Kookai, Lola long sleeve cut out dress is the perfect PM piece for this occassion. This dress alludes a classic appeal simply by its crew neckline and long sleeves. Fitted in it's form, this midi length style shows off my silhouette with its head-turning cut-out detailing at the waist and centre front circular ring design, at the same time giving just the right amount of sexy and sophistication.

To elevate this look, but not over shadow the statement of the dress, I completed my ensemble with a Tory Burch quilted off-the-shoulder bag, a simple gold chain necklace that pairs nicely with the gold chain strap of the bag and sits perfectly against the crew neckline, then finishing with a pair of classic black heels. In the words of comedian Tiffany Haddish "She ready!"

What a fun Friday night! The girls and I didn't get up to too much mischief! Though I did eventually have that third cocktail I still got home at a reasonable hour and have woken up early Saturday morning, hangover free! I had such a great time last night, how do I continue with these good vibes? Hmm... with shopping of course! I think David Jones is still having their end of season sale I need to check out...

Enter See the Light Dress by MVN the label - the perfect all day dress for this occassion.

Whilst browsing the 'recently new' on The Iconic one day (well if I'm being honest with myself as I do every second day) I came across this gorgeous beige knitted dress that I instantly knew I had to have! Disappointed to find my size had sold out, I went straight to MVN's online shop only to be disappointed yet again, as they didn't have my size there either! Frustrated, yet determined not to give up on this true connection I emailed customer service directly asking (begging) them to notify me once it's back in stock! Luckily, I got an email back the following day and I was sent the dress! I was so happy when it arrived, even happier when it fit me well, leading me to publicly share my joy on Instagram stories!

Every wardrobe needs a dress like this. Crafted from a soft ribbed knit fabric, and it's easy silhouette makes it a versatile piece to work with, especially with all kinds of shoes. As I'll be shopping all day, I decided to pair the dress with the Wittner Napa ankle boots in chocolate for the comfort, as well as for the height (cause I'm a shorty), then adding a tortoise shell acryclic bag (which you can also find styled in my Underneath the Malibu Sunset post) to slightly jazz up the simplicity of the dress and to compliment the neutral tone. To bring the ensemble all together, I finished my look with these cute tortoise shell earrings I bought from a pop-up store in Westfield Sydney for less than $30, matching nicely with my bag.

Now it's Saturday evening, I drank some cocktails with the girls on Friday, done some credit card damage all day, now it's time to wind down with a romantic night out with my baby. Candle lit dinner for two, enjoying a delicious in-season menu at one of Sydney's best restaurants, and going all out by ordering a bottle of wine, preferably red (who am I kidding, I have no preference, red, white or pink suits me just fine!)

Along with the Lola long sleeve cut-out dress, I also bought this duo, the Lola polo long sleeve and the Lola midi skirt from Kookai. There's no lie, I am obsessed with their Lola range (I have the same top in black, and in a cream but short sleeve). Kookai have done really well with this range, it's sleek, sophisticated and sexy turning them into pure high quality, coveted pieces.

I thought I'd change it up a bit for date night, and go with an alternative outfit that achieves a similar yet equally as chic look by wearing a matching top and skirt set instead! Both pieces work so well together, but work so great apart enabling a versatility across a multitude of looks. For example, the top can be teamed with high waisted jeans and the skirt with a chunky knitted sweater.

I love them as a set personally. I chose to style this look with a short chunky heel sandal, some simple gold hoop earrings and this attention-grabbing Prada belt bag, who I must say comes out occassionally to play as she needs to preserve her energy and her beauty! I thought I'd take her out for a stroll to wrap up the weekend!

With no doubt, the knit dress (or knit in general) is currently having a style renaissance. It's one of the easiest fabrics to wear and certainly one of the most comfortable, yet chic options for winter. They are versatile to say the least, as they not only easily transition from day to night, but they also transition from winter to spring easily, hence go and get you some knit dresses now!

Comment below on which of the three looks you prefer or how you would style them. Thanks for reading xoxo.
